The East-West road has been in the news severally over what road users referred to as neglect on the part of government.

The road which was awarded by previous government and left uncompleted has continued to worsen as successive government seem to be doing little or nothing in getting the road fixed or completed.

While the rainy season has taken its toll especially in the Niger Delta Region, the condition of the East-West road has become almost not passable by commuters and daily road users who are already lamenting of their experiences on the road as a result of the bad spots.

Just recently, a trailer trying to dodge the bad portion of the road around Evekwu, fell due to the deep holes on the both sides of the road. While severally, vehicles have crashed and lots of other ugly experiences on the East-West road.

Nkpolu session of the road has become totally bad with barricade on the road, forcing motorist to divert to alternate link roads in Rivers State. While flood, grasses and reptiles have become the major occupants of the area, the divided part of the road have now become a loading park by helpless commuters forcing passengers to end their journey half way.

The Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola have come out to clarify that the East-West road is not under the Federal Ministry of Works but under the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

What is not clear is why the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio seem not to be making efforts towards fixing the East-West road nor explain the challenges hindering work on that road.

Akpabio had visited the deteriorated Nkpolu session of the East-West road where he promised to fix the road last year, but to no avail. In fact, it is now worst than he visited.

The Bayelsa session of the road has since become a death trap, leaving commuters worst of. Some travelers who spoke to True Blue Reporters blamed politicians for not having the masses at heart and complained of not feeling the impact of the Niger Delta Ministry in the current administration.

While many has accused the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio of focusing more on the choppings in NDDC, Akpabio still have the option of proving his critics wrong by fixing and completing the East-West road which is directly under his ministry and supervision.
