The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has been praised by the Community Secondary Grammar School, Ebugho, in Akwa Ibom State’s Mbo Local Government Area for assisting to raise academic standards and student performance.
The school’s principal, Mr. Ime Harry Akpabio, said in an interview conducted in his office that the National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, was able to participate in the school more frequently for the benefit of the students because NDDC built new staff housing, a science lab, and other support facilities.
The school was short on teachers before to the NDDC’s assistance, the principal noted, adding that the NDDC’s provision of housing and classrooms had a positive impact on employee morale.
“The School has approximately 30 youth corps members managing various courses from mathematics, sciences, and the arts,” stated Akpabio. Up until recently, the school had few teachers to teach the basic disciplines. However, due to the excellent accommodations, they are clamoring to work in the school.
“It has affected the pupils’ success in external examinations like WAEC and NECO, and the future looks brighter for our school and students,” he continued.
The principal urged NDDC to go further by erecting a surrounding fence for the school, stressing that “the protection of the pupils and staff is of paramount significance.”
