The Oil and Gas Landlords, Pipeline Landlords and Host Communities of Egi Clan in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area have, at the moment blocked all TOTAL E&P’s facilities in the area.
A source told City News that the host communities are expressing their grievance over an alleged failure of the oil and gas gaint to meet it’s corporate social responsibilities and also fulfill it’s mandates as enshrined in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between them.
In particular, the protesters, according to our source are agrieved that the company has failed to conduct skills acquisition for them in the past two years and has also allegedly failed to released funds to scholarship beneficiaries within the same period.
There is also an allegation that the company is sidelining qualified members of their host communities in it’s employments.
We gathered the protesters are threatening to shutdown the Gas Plant operated by the company in the area and have blocked the entrance and exit gates of their operational sites at Obagi, Ogbogu and Obite Gas Plant preventing staff from gaining access to the facilities.
