Tonye Cole who is said to enjoy the support of key leaders of the APC in Rivers State on Thursday took the bold step to officially join the race ahead of the planned primaries of the APC for the 2023 general elections.
True Blue Reporters reports that Tonye Patrick Cole, Ojukaye Flag Amachree, Magnus Abe are the few who has picked the Guber form under APC in Rivers State. It is still not clear if others will do same as the day goes.
However, there are reports that the party in the state may have settled for Tonye Patrick Cole as consensus aspirant for the party. A situation which is believed to have cut short the aspiration of others who may have showed interest for the race directly or indirectly.
Ojukaye Flag Amachree, a former chairman of APC in Rivers State had insisted on continuing in the race despite the decision and proceeded to pick same Guber form. He had also gathered his supporters in the Port Harcourt Polo Club to officially declare his intention in the race and publicly denied any knowledge of consensus agreement.
Dakuku Peterside, a former director general of NIMASA had also addressed his supporters at the airport on his return to Port Harcourt on Tuesday, an event which many believed was to inform his supporters on whether to continue in the Guber race or not. He neither announced to proceed or discontinue, rather expressed his support for the APC in Rivers State as a team player.
Magnus Abe, a former lawmaker who is known to be running a parallel faction of the APC in Rivers State and many have accused of working with the ruling PDP in the state had also gone ahead to pick his Guber form. A situation many believed may be his strategy to weaken the chances of the APC in grabbing power in 2023 if care is not taken
